The Disadvantage Of Owning A Condominium

You may be planning to buy a condominium over a stand alone home because it is always cheaper to buy one. However, you may not be prepared for the disadvantages that come with owning a condominium.

When you buy a condominium, you will own practically everything that is inside the house. The outside of a condominium is the common area and this comes under the purview of the homeowners’ association of the condominium. It is this common area that can lead to a lot of problems.

The most common problem arises from the parking space. Usually condominiums do have assigned parking space. It is on first come, first serve basis. Though the issue is small, it can cause a lot of furor, specially when guests are visiting someone in the complex and take up all the parking space.

Condominiums are about creating uniformity. If you are the type of person who likes to express his individuality, condominium will drive you crazy. There are many rules that are enforced by the condominium association and one needs to adhere to them. Many condominium associations have rules that restrict you from having pets, renting it other, making noise outside during particular time and using particular types of material in your condominium.

If you are a proud owner of a condominium then you would have to pay the monthly homeowners association fees. The association needs the money for upkeep of the surrounding areas around the condominium like gardening or maintaining the complex. This fee can vary and at times many associations end up charging like $500 a month.

Before planning to buy a condominium, make sure you take the time to read all the rules and regulations of the association. Make sure you know what you would be setting yourself up for.
