Small Business Loans For Women

In the past women found it difficult to get business loans because lenders had a misconception that small companies run by women were too risky when compared to one run by a man. However, this is in the past. In present times women can get small business loans easily and lenders have begun to see that the small businesses run by women are actually quite successful. In the US, 50 percent of all small businesses are run successful by women.

This does not mean that women do not face any prejudices. They still find it difficult to procure loans. However, it is not as difficult as it used to be a decade or so ago. Many lenders are part of the SBA program, which ensures that no discrimination takes place and the program gives women entrepreneurs guaranteed small business loans. The amount of the loan depends on the type of business and can range from $5,000 to $100,000; at times it can even exceed $100,000.

If you are interested in getting a small business loan as a woman entrepreneur, ensure that you submit a detailed financial plan along with the application. The lending institute will then run a credit and reference check before disbursing the loan amount. In case you default, the SBA will help to pay off the loan. A point to be noted is that, the loan amount will be 80 percent of the starting cost. The balance 20 percent will have to put down by the female entrepreneur.

As female entrepreneurs have started breaking the glass ceiling, many non-profit organizations are offering grants to them to help them meet the 20 percent down payment requirement so that they can get the loan. In order to get more information on the small business loans for women, you can easily contact the local SBA chapter or else you can get the information on the internet.
